Who is mapping what?

I have started a new project with a collective of activist which will focus on mapping the existing alternatives to the current system.

The first step will be to look at the existing project that have been or are being developed.

I will use this post to list and comment them, so this page will probably evolve through time.

GLOBAL TRANSITION TO A NEW ECONOMY

The map creates a framework to define the new economy, and a forum for community groups, organizations and individuals to share information and best practice- thereby accelerating the replication of successful new economy projects.

SOLIDARITY 4 ALL

Directory of Greek social and solidarity economy initiatives.

By who:
Financed and directed by the SYRIZA political party, it has been severely criticised for its top-down approach.

  • Type of platform: very similar to buddypress with events and map integration, but not sure if that is what is being used.

  • Classification: Very broad but clear
  • Participation: A group can ask for a personal account. The site then verifies that the user asking for the account corresponds to the group he/she is wanting to add. If so an account is created for them which gives them a profile page that can be edited by the user.
  • Other: The user can also add events of it’s group to the calendar. The website also has a forum and solidarity4all also provides support structures for groups.

P2P FOUNDATION WIKISPRINT

The P2P WikiSprint brings together activists, schollars, hackers, journalists and P2P advocates to work as a group to map and document P2P experiences in a collaborative way.

MAPPING THE COMMONS

A project of exploration and representation of the urban commons. The research takes the main form of a temporary laboratory where activists, artists, social scientists and students from different disciplines join for more than a week.
